So, your computer was stolen. What do you need to do now?
The first thing you should do is encrypt your data. Why? Because whoever stole it, can easily access your data now.
Losing encrypted data is one thing. But, if your data is unencrypted, that’s an even heavier burden. Especially if that data is confidential.
This is why you need to encrypt it. BitLocker encryption is the best tool for the job. It can help protect all of your data. You can encrypt a lot of data in very little time.
So, even if your computer is stolen, your data will be safe and sound. BitLocker also has it’s helpful companion BitTruster to manage it. You don’t have to worry about safety and time. None of it will go to waste. Now you can sweat a little less.
So, now that your data is encrypted, you can focus on finding your computer.
You’re working with Windows, so you already have an advantage. Here’s why:
- Turn on “Find my device”.
This can help you a lot and you can easily set this up. Just activate it when you first open your computer. Do this while you still have your computer in your hands. Here’s how to do it:
- Open “Settings”
- Go to “Update & Security”
- Click on “Find my device”
- Change the option from “No” to “Yes”
Here’s what to do next:
- You need to Sign in to your Microsoft account through a different device.
- Go to the “Find my device” option
- Click on “Find”.
- Look at where your computer is on the map.
You can then lock your device so the person who stole it won’t access it. Now, you can track your computer.
Do you have “Find my device” disabled? Then, unfortunately, you have a disadvantage. Don’t worry, you can still find it. It will just be a little harder. You have to contact someone who can track your computer.
Do you have credit or debit card information stored on your device? If you do, and it’s not encrypted, then your thief will use it to commit crimes in your name. You can track them after that.
But, it’s not worth losing your data to find your computer. So, always encrypt it.
BitLocker won’t allow hackers to access your data. So even if you can’t find your computer, your data will be safe.
